Ten years ago the Star Wars fans were very exited about the new movie of the new trilogy about Star Wars and we were in front of the theaters waiting to see the new universe of George Lucas again. It was on May 19th, 1999 (the release date in Spain was on August 20th. Yes, we waited for 3 months and I still can’t believe that).
When I saw that piece of crap called The Phantom Menace I changed my point of view about the things in the universe. George Lucas was my idol during 28 years from 1971 to 1999 and after that movie he became into a falling idol because he destroyed the universe he created in the wonderful original Star Wars trilogy. He changed all the mythology, the great characters and actors, the masterful screenplays written by Lawrence Kasdan in the 80’s into this silly and kiddie history about a boy named Darth Vader and that awful creature he created named Jar Jar Binks. He also became in one of the worst CGI creatures ever created in the history of the SciFi genre.
So Happy Birthday The Phantom Menace. I wish I could get back in time and say something to George Lucas in the moment he was writing the screenplay of this movie. I mean something like stop this trilogy of immature characters with silly dialogues and focus on the mature audience who were waiting for this movie for 16 years. Those fans who saw the original trilogy and now we are 30-35 years old. We really wanted to see a mature masterpiece of Star Wars. Unfortunately we were wrong and Lucas…you should think about what you have done.
After 10 years I realize that The Phantom Menace ruined the Star Wars franchise and turned all the real fans into the dark side of the force. It’s a sad celebration for all of us because it’s too late to reborn the spirit of this franchise.
